Solid Oak Dining Table on Hand-Turned Oak Legs

A gorgeous, richly grained, full-stave dining table.

DIMENSIONS.

2350 long x 1000 wide x 735 to the top surface of the table (mm).

LEGS.

The legs and base are all made from solid English oak and have had the same gloss Osmo hard wax oil finish as the top.

FINISH.

The top has had 2 coats of gloss Osmo hard wax oil, which is a very hard-wearing and spill-proof finishing oil that requires very little maintenance while giving it a smooth and tactile finish.

PROVENANCE.

This was a fallen dead oak. It was around 130 years old and grew in a small village, St. Margaret's South Elmham beside the road. Whilst it was growing, it hosted beefsteak fungi, which is what gave the wood the brown streaks. This is known as spalting.

Beefsteak fungus is the reason you will sometimes see live standing oak trees that are hollow; over time it breaks down the timber and rots the wood away.
